In my free time...

Here are some of the things that keep me busy in my free time.

Volunteering

One of the best ways to find fulfillment is in serving others. Currently, Lorice and I volunteer with the Cedar Rapids Animal Care and Control shelter. These are dedicated folks doing a lot with very little, especially since the flood of 2008 which left them homeless. They're making do in a temporary facility that is far too small and not designed to be an animal shelter. I created a page to help get their message out, Please consider visiting the facebook link on the left.

I also have enjoyed volunteering with Habitat for Humanity and look forward to getting connected in the Marion/Cedar Rapids area this summer.

The key to getting started is trying different things. Volunteer in many different environments until you find one that scratches your itch, then make volunteering a regular part of your life.

Music

I've been playing the drums for 36 years. My current project is revisiting the 26 primary rudiments (these are used in drum corps and marching bands) so that I can re-enter the teaching realm. I love working with fledgling drummers, teaching them the basics and the art of drumming. I'm also going to spend time on my drum kit un-learning old habits and challenging myself to be a better player in anticipation of creating a new band project. For now, here's a clip from a live show with the last band I played with, The HighPatheticals. Yes, it's in Quicktime, so if it won't play for you, download Quicktime and install it.

Thanks for stopping by to follow my journey!
